Why Do We Sleep?

Sleep plays a critical role in the overall health and development of children, influencing not only their physical growth but also their cognitive and emotional well-being. Research has shown that insufficient and poor quality sleep is linked to various conditions, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mood disorders, and learning disabilities. Identifying and treating and underlying sleep disorder may resolve these conditions. Unfortunately, these problems are often overlooked in a busy  pediatric well visit. Additionally, parents may not associate sleep disturbances with behavioral or learning challenges, leading to missed opportunities for early intervention. Recognizing the profound impact of sleep on child development is essential for providing holistic care and improving long-term health.  Children that sleep well are happier, learn better and perform better athletically.
